A tribute to Director Michael Powell`s
THE
EDGE OF THE WORLD
This site is dedicated to the everlasting memory of the famous British Film director Michael Powell.

Michael, born on 30th Sept 1905 Directed such classics as `MATTER OF LIFE & DEATH` with David Niven, `A CANTERBURY TALE` `BATTLE OF THE RIVER PLATE` `THE SPY IN BLACK` and the the main theme of this site `THE EDGE OF THE WORLD` starring John Laurie.

With his love of Scotland and the Islands, this timeless classic filmed on Foula, the most Western Isle of Shetland, and arguably most remote Isle in the British Isles, it was here he made `THE EDGE OF THE WORLD`.

With a budget that sounds ridiculous by todays standards of only £20,000 and enlisting the help of the people of Foula,The movie was shot between June & October 1936 and though it never quite gained the publicity it needed in this country, a copy was sent to New York, where in 1938 it was nominated for best picture of year.

The movie captures on this site are just a taster of what the film is all about, and to see what happens next, I`m afraid you`ll just have to watch it for yourself!

HAPPY VIEWING! BUY BRITISH!
